Searching has only showed me outdated post where people responses are 'if you wanna play gba, get a slot-2 reader' instead. And as for the second comment i have played a couple of snes games on my ds and there have only been a few glitches. Other then physical functions anything the snes or gba can do the ds can do better.the major reason it hasn't been done yet is cause they have gba slit. My problem is, I'm not 100% sure if all Nintendo DS cases have this GBA cartridge slot or just some of the cases. I'm under the assumption that as long as you get a Nintendo DS game (not DSi, XL, whatever) it will have that extra slot since the Nintendo DS is the device that actually supports playing GameBoy Advance games.

Dual-slot mode (Japanese: ダブルスロットDouble-Slot) is a method of communication between a Nintendo DS game card and a Game Boy Advance game cartridge by inserting both into the same Nintendo DS system. However, due to the removal of the GBA slot, dual-slot mode is not available if the player is using a system from the Nintendo DSi family or Nintendo 3DS family.

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Pal Park allows the player to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen, using dual-slot mode for communication. Additionally, someone at Pal Park will give accessories to the player if there is a game cartridge in the DS.

The Pokémon are sent from the Generation III game to the Generation IV game, and cannot be sent back.

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, the dongle method changes the wild Pokémon that appear based on the game in the Game Boy Advance slot, via dual-slot mode. This method is compatible with any of the Generation IIIcore series games: Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen. The name 'dongle method' is an unofficial name that comes from the fact that this method uses the Game Boy Advance game as a dongle for the Nintendo DS game.

After obtaining the National Pokédex, if the player had an applicable GBA game inserted in the GBA slot when they opened the title screen, the dongle method allows specific wild Pokémon to appear depending on the GBA game. Wild encounters will not change if a GBA game is inserted or removed from the Nintendo DS system after the title screen.

The wild Pokémon that can appear this way are mostly not in the Sinnoh Pokédex in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. They are usually game-exclusive Pokémon to one of the Generation III games. They usually have an 8% chance of appearing, or 4% each if there are two different Pokémon that can appear this way in the same location due to the same game.

Pokémon Dream Radar has a similar feature that allows players to catch a Generation IV game mascot with its Hidden Ability in extensions unlocked by putting the Game Card of the corresponding game into the game card slot of the Nintendo 3DS system.

In Pokémon Dash, players can make custom cups based on the party in a Generation III core series game inserted in the GBA slot. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen sprites are used; Spinda patterns are retained, but Shiny coloration is not depicted. Eggs in the player's party are ignored.

The Japanese, European, and American versions of Pokémon Dash have no region checks, allowing the player use any language game (although only the first 5 characters of a Pokémon's name will be displayed in the Japanese version of Pokémon Dash). The Korean version only allows Japanese game cartridges to be used.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, dual-slot mode allows the game to communicate with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team.

If the player has both games inserted into a compatible system, SOS Mail can be sent between the games, allowing for the rescue team in one game to save the team in the other cartridge's save file.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, the player can use Receive Team while Red Rescue Team is in the Game Boy Advance slot. If used, the rescue team from Red Rescue Team becomes the boss of the Rescue Team Maze of Makuhita Dojo.

ROM Progress Report.... DarkFader hasn't been getting much sleep recently but he may earn a solid 12 hour block of shut-eye shortly if he keeps making progress at this pace. Here's what's happened since DarkFader dumped the Metroid card on Dec 21st...
1) He flashed the ARM7 part of Metroid to GBA cartridge. At startup this code normally gets loaded to the RAM from the DS cartridge but DarkFader changed the execution address to the GBA slot. This worked. The Metroid card can be removed and Metroid is still playable from the GBA slot.
2) DarkFader dumped the first 0x4000 bytes of the ARM9 executable with a piece of ARM7 code and can reconstruct a full ROM.
What does this mean?
1) The entire system may well be accessible from the GBA slot - not just GBA games. Which would greatly speed homebrewing as writable GBA cartridges are cheap and plentiful.
2) DarkFader is able to work on virtually no sleep and should be commended.

Homebrew DS Games

Passthrough
The breakthrough for running custom code on the DS came when DarkFader found out that he could make the DS jump to the GBA cart by modifying the ARM7 vector and adjusting the CRC16 in the Metroid header with his passthrough setup. This allowed him to take over the ARM7 which was at that time running in DS mode (i.e. with access to DS specific hardware). The custom ARM7 code could then load ARM9 code into memory and then take over the ARM9. As a result, DS homebrewing became a reality.

The primary (read: only) means of running homebrew code on the Nintendo DS is currently via a passthrough mechanism in the DS card port and a traditional GBA flash cart in the GBA cartridge port . A passthrough technique is required, since the DS BIOS enables encryption after reading the header, and the encryption is not fully understood.

The passthrough operates in protocol mode most of the time, transparently directing commands to the card and data back to the DS (see DS protocol . However, for the first transfer after a card reset (always the header fetch during boot), it feeds a modified header back to the DS instead of the data that would have come from the card.

This modified header is the same as the original header, with the exception of the ARM7 execute address and the header CRC16. The ARM7 execute address points to 0x08000000 (GBA cartrdige ROM), and the header CRC16 is recomputed to account for the modifications. You can't do this trick to run ARM9 directly, because the BIOS gives the ARM7 priority on the cartridge space during bootup.

Once you select the game in the firmware menu (or it auto-loads, depending on your settings), the code on the GBA cartridge will be executed. Unlike running code directly off of a GBA cartridge, it is executed in DS mode , not GBA mode! At this point, you're free to do what you want, but typically the ARM7 bootloader code on the cartridge copies a pair of ARM binaries to RAM, one for the ARM7 and the other for the ARM9.
